Although I was
born in Southwestern Michigan, (close to Notre Dame), I moved the
Pacific Northwest as a teenager. After finishing high school, I decided
that I wanted to see the world, so I joined the U.S. Army. After serving
two tours in the Philippines, four years in Japan, two tours in
Thailand, a short three years in Germany, and yes, even a LONG 13 months
in Southern Viet Nam, with short trips back to the States to renew my
citizenship, I once again returned to the Pacific Northwest to settle
down. My family was able to join me in my travels to the Philippines,
Japan and Germany. After retiring from the Army, we returned to the
Pacific Northwest to settle down, and I returned to school.
While I finished my education, I worked
AT several jobs, (office worker, Insurance salesman, forms clerk, and
full time student). Upon competition, I worked for a few years at Knapp
Business College as a Programming Instructor. Teaching Dinosaur
languages (COMBOL, PASCAL, BASIC, RPG), later I decided to get a REAL
job working for Occidental Chemical Co. in Fife (which later became
Pioneer Chemical Co.), as a computer programmer/operator. After the
onslaught of Personal Computers, I switched languages and became a
Computer Network Supervisor until I retired in 2000, (just after the
“millennium farce”).
We purchased our first PT Cruiser in
2004 (that’s the red one). Whenever Jean mentioned getting a PT Cruiser,
I always told her, “…you must be kidding, they are UGLY”. After buying
it I tell her, “….you can’t see how ugly it is, sitting inside!” We
purchased the convertible in 2005, (I let Jean drive it now and then).
We joined MRC in 2005 (Membership # 43), and have enjoyed our
association with the Club. I look forward to many more fun trips,
activities and just good fellowship with the Club Members.
I know my Bio is lengthily, but you
must remember, I’m ALMOST as old as Garry A. and that’s a lot of years
to cover. |
